Textile Industry of Pakistan is the premier industry of the country since independence in 1947. Although only 3 textile industrial units were inherited at the time of independence, but this number has increased to more than 600 today. Most of this increase happened during first three decades after 1947. That was the time till early 90s when Pakistan was the World’s largest exporter of yarn. However, due to inconsistent State policies mainly due to political instability this sector has seen continuous decline and presently it is in very bad state. Capacity of this sector and capability of the workforce to regain its No.1 status is proven but needs to be given serious attention by the Government.
